Fiendish Objects

The Realm of the Fiendish Objects is a series of paintings depicting its namesake from the ongoing Nightmare City comic series. The Realm of the Fiendish Objects, also known as The New Realm, was created by the Fairy Sunburn as a home to her invention, Fiends, which she made by fusing the bodies and souls of other living things. The Fiend is a borderless creature, constantly merging and splitting apart from itself, taking a new form and eventually solidifying into something more stable, but no less violent or beautiful. She got her inspiration from the paradox of the City, in which people pack themselves together to control their surroundings, protect from the Wilderness, and destroy each other in the process. The New Realm takes up the same physical space as the old one, but follows different rules. This series is ongoing.

Emy finds special ways to torment Jules in the Realm of the Fiendish Objects.

All living things are made of and can be reduced to Primal Fluid, pictured coming out of Emy & Yumeno’s heads. Fiends take this form frequently. Being a Fiend can feel really, really good.

The fun doesn’t last forever.

Jules loses part of himself permanently. This does not mean all hope is lost.

The Face Vendor is an advanced Fiend who operates on concepts of Value and Identity. It appears to other Fiends who are on the verge of regaining their Humanity, and offers them a proposition: one face for $5, two for $8. The money is symbolic, and the subjected Fiend will give whatever it feels corresponds to the value. A Fiend who feels secure in their Human Identity will choose only one face, and be reborn as themselves in the Old Realm. A Fiend who still feels insecure in themselves will be greedy and buy two faces, and the competing Identities will tear each other apart. Meanwhile, Fox and Monkey observe themselves like Art, and a Fiend resembling Emy opens the fence and cuts a poppy with bolt cutters, just for the hell of it.
